Espresso Martini

I wish I could say I came up with this lovely tipple on my own. However, I owe it all to a restaurant in Edinburgh’s old town called The Outsider.

I have been introduced to the espresso martini only recently, at a friends for dinner. I was an instant convert! It might have something to do with having three young children and the dreaded lack of energy to do anything in the evening beyond the confines of your home. So, when at this lovely dinner (I will tell you about dessert another time!) I was handed an espresso martini on arrival, I was thrilled at the instant caffeine injection which came along with my drink. Fast forward a few weeks to a dinner out with some friends from out-of-town and there it was on the menu with dessert. How could I say no?! It arrived and I was giddy with excitement. I was amazed when it was even better that I expected. So much so that I began hounding the waiter for the recipe, to which he obliged. I share this with you now. May you enjoy it as much as I do!

  • 1 measure Vodka
  • 1 measure Kahlua
  • 1/2 measure Licor 43
  • 1 measure Double Espresso

Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker, add ice. Give a good shake and then serve in a martini glass and garnish with espresso beans.

Perfect drink for the start of the evening when you need a little kick with your drink.  Even better after dinner.
