I was introduced to this smoothie by a friend and have made it regularly since. I now keep a steady supply of frozen mango for just this purpose and will have it at least once a week for breakfast – even my kids will have one!
Turmeric is believed to have many anti-inflammatory, antiviral, anti-bacterial and antioxidant properties which is what makes this style of smoothie so popular. The chia seeds (if you haven’t already been introduced to them) add some bulk to fill you up without adding taste. They have an amazing ability to absorb 12 times their weight in liquid and are great source of Omega-3 fatty acids. The maca powder is understood to help regulate hormones and reduce tiredness and fatigue – it is a great source of zinc, thiamin, riboflavin, Vitamin B6, calcium and iron. If you don’t have maca powder I wouldn’t let that stop you from making this. You could easily substitute another supplement like lucuma or baobab or omit it altogether.
Makes one serving.
- 250 ml (1 cup) Almond Milk
- 100 g (1/2 cup) fresh or frozen Mango pieces
- 1 Banana
- 1 tsp Coconut oil
- 1 tsp Chia Seeds
- 1 tsp Maca powder
- 1 tsp ground Turmeric
- 1/2 tsp ground Cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground Ginger
Add all the ingredients to your blender and blend until smooth. Serve immediately.
